Whether for a hike or simply to enjoy the view – the Nordkette is a real highlight of your stay.

Our cultural tip:

The Hofkirche, situated on the edge of Innsbruck’s Old Town, was built between 1553 and 1563 as a mausoleum for Emperor Maximilian I, who died in 1519. Even though the sarcophagus is empty – Maximilian was buried in Wiener Neustadt Castle – the Hofkirche in Innsbruck is the most significant monument in Tyrol and the most magnificent of all imperial tombs in Europe. Particularly impressive are the 28 larger-than-life bronze statues flanking the raised tomb. They depict Emperor Maximilian’s relatives and his role models. It is from these figures that the name ‘Schwarz-Mander-Kirche’ – as the Hofkirche is popularly known – derives. Tip: When visiting the Hofkirche, you should also take the opportunity to visit the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum next door.
