The region impressively combines alpine beauty with an outstanding range of sports and leisure activities.

A paradise for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers

Whether it’s summer or winter, the region offers countless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Walkers can explore the stunning natural landscape along over 700 kilometres of marked trails, whilst climbers can put their skills to the test on the challenging rock faces of the Kaiser Mountains. Road cyclists can test themselves on the legendary Kitzbüheler Horn, one of Austria’s toughest climbs. In winter, the Wilder Kaiser is transformed into a fairytale snow-covered landscape with perfectly groomed slopes in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, one of the world’s largest ski areas. Ski tourers and cross-country skiers will find countless opportunities here to experience the winter mountain landscape in all its splendour.

The most beautiful places in the region

One of the region’s most beautiful spots is Lake Hinterstein, a true natural gem situated at 882 metres above sea level. With its crystal-clear, turquoise-blue waters and picturesque setting amidst unspoilt nature, it is one of the cleanest mountain lakes in Tyrol. A walk around the lake constantly reveals new and fascinating views. The lake is at its most magical in the early morning hours, when the majestic peaks of the Wilder Kaiser are reflected in the still water.

Another highlight is the Schleier Waterfall near Going, one of Tyrol’s most impressive waterfalls. The water plunges over a 60-metre-high rock face, surrounded by a picturesque woodland landscape. For climbers, this spot is a paradise, as some of the region’s best climbing routes are situated around the waterfall.

A special place of power can be found above Ellmau – the Ellmau Stone Circle. This mystical formation of boulders is said to concentrate particularly strong earth energies and offers a breathtaking view of the Kaiser Mountains. Perfect for a short meditation or simply to take a deep breath amidst the imposing mountain scenery.

Anyone wishing to experience the Wilder Kaiser from above should visit the Gruttenhütte. At 1,620 metres, it is the highest mountain hut in the region and a popular destination for walkers and climbers. The ascent takes you through impressive karst landscapes and is rewarded with a magnificent panorama. There’s also plenty to discover for fans of the TV series *Der Bergdoktor*. Filming locations such as the Gruberhof or the picturesque village square in Going allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the popular TV series.

Relaxation and enjoyment

The region offers not only sporting challenges but also numerous opportunities for relaxation. Many hotels and alpine huts offer yoga retreats with unique mountain views, whilst wellness facilities featuring panoramic saunas and natural swimming lakes invite you to unwind. Food lovers will also find plenty to enjoy: rustic alpine huts serve Tyrolean specialities such as Gröstl, Kaspressknödel and Kaiserschmarrn, whilst the region’s gourmet restaurants serve sophisticated dishes made from regional produce.

"The Wilder Kaiser is a region that combines adventure and relaxation in a unique way. The stunning natural scenery, the wide range of sporting activities and the warm Tyrolean hospitality make this place a dream destination for anyone who loves exercise, nature and relaxation.
