Rock crystal
At 850 metres above Oberstaufen, with views of the Nagelfluh range
The Bergkristall Resort is situated on a peaceful hillside in the district of Willis, around two kilometres above Oberstaufen in the Allgäu. Opposite rises the Nagelfluh range with the Hochgrat; on clear days, the view stretches as far as the Säntis. Right next to the hotel is its own wildlife park with red deer. The four-star superior resort is run by the Lingg family. The Falstaff Hotel Guide 2026 has named it Germany’s best spa hotel, whilst the Relax Guide 2026 has awarded it three lilies and 18 out of 20 points.
New fitness centre, new pools and suites with recovery facilities
The 2025 extension has added a two-storey fitness centre, a larger yoga studio, an indoor sports pool and a newly designed Kristall Spa covering 3,700 square metres. Accommodation is available in 25 categories ranging from 28 to 120 square metres, all with a balcony or loggia. The six new lake suites feature a sauna on the terrace and their own jetty leading into the mountain lake. The six mountain suites feature a private recovery spa with a sauna, a whirlpool bath and BLACKROLL compression boots.
Cuisine based on the 80:20 principle
80 per cent health-conscious, 20 per cent indulgence – with no white sugar, no white flour and no flavour enhancers. Breakfast is served until 11 am, whilst lunch is prepared at the live cooking station. In the evening, guests can enjoy a multi-course gourmet meal featuring produce from the Allgäu region, accompanied by a selection of around 450 wines.
A longevity hotel in Germany with a holistic approach
Longevity sees the Bergkristall as a lifestyle that you take home with you. Exercise, relaxation, nutrition, sleep and mindset are all intertwined. This includes fitness assessments, masterclasses and retreats, including a week with the Institut Lebensenergie. Twice a year, the hotel also offers the Schroth cure, for which Oberstaufen has always been renowned.
EGYM studio, sports pools and the Nagelfluh mountain range: fitness and yoga in Oberstaufen
Fitness hotel in the Allgäu: two floors, EGYM and free weights training
The gym is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm. According to the hotel, the Bergkristall is the first hotel in Germany to feature the EGYM training system. Its strength training equipment automatically adjusts to the user’s fitness level. There are also cardio machines from NOHRD, a free weights area with barbells, bumper plates and cable machines, as well as a functional training zone. Personal training sessions can be booked as an extra. This makes the Bergkristall a modern sports hotel in Germany for a fitness holiday that goes beyond just cardio.
Yoga hotel in the Allgäu: studio, plateau and weekly programme
The activity programme runs from Monday to Saturday and is usually included. Yoga sessions are held in the mornings and evenings; when the weather is fine, they take place outdoors on the yoga plateau. The programme also includes Pilates, mobility training, qigong, meditation and aqua fitness.
Hiking hotel and active holidays in the Allgäu
Around the hotel, some 250 kilometres of hiking trails wind through the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, with many starting right on the hotel’s doorstep. Guided walks are organised every week. With the included Oberstaufen PLUS guest card, you can use the mountain railways for free, e-bikes are available free of charge, and several golf courses offer free green fees.
Rejuvenation at the Kristall Spa: two sports pools, five saunas, a natural pond
If you’re looking for a hotel with swimming pools, you’ll find two here: the 20-metre outdoor infinity pool, heated all year round, and the 14-metre indoor pool. For relaxation, there are five saunas, a natural pond for cold therapy and treatments using the hotel’s own skincare range, EWIG by Bergkristall.

Expert commentary – Why the Bergkristall is a top choice for strength training, altitude training and contrast training
You can recognise a hotel gym by its dedicated strength training area. With bumper plates, a landmine and a hip-thrust bench, the Bergkristall offers the opportunity to perform heavy compound exercises – providing a genuine training stimulus rather than mere holiday exercise. This aligns with the hotel’s commitment to longevity, as muscle mass is considered one of the most important indicators of healthy years of life. Our tip: do the strength test on your very first day.
The free mountain railways make it easy to plan your altitude gain. If you want to be gentle on your knees, walk up and take the railway down; if you want to train your strength endurance, do it the other way round. From the Hochgrat, the highest peak in the Nagelfluh range, one of the classic ridge walks in the Allgäu begins.
To help you recover, it’s worth alternating between a warm whirlpool and a cold natural pond. A heated 20-metre outdoor pool, where you can swim laps even in winter, is a rare find. As the activity programme runs from Monday to Saturday, Sunday is the best day to arrive.
